On March 18, 1852, Henry Wells and William G. Fargo united to launch Wells Fargo, a company dedicated to transporting freight to the West and providing banking services to those discovering gold. In 1857 they added passenger and mail service. Wells Fargo is among the biggest banking concerns in the U.S.
