November 26, 1941 FDR makes 4th Thursday of Nov Thanksgiving Day

On November 26, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed a bill that established the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day. In 1789, President George Washington proclaimed November 26 as a thanksgiving holiday for the U.S. Constitution.  In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared that Thanksgiving should fall on the last Thursday of November. This ushered in the celebration of the day nationally. FDR’s bill made the holiday official.
