On February 5, 1994, white supremacist Byron De La Beckwith was convicted in the murder of African-American civil rights leader Medgar Evers, a crime committed over 30 years earlier. Evers was gunned down in the driveway of his home in Jackson, Mississippi, on June 12, 1963.
