June 8, 1968, James Earl Ray arrested for the death of MLK in April

On June 8, 1968, James Earl Ray was arrested in London for the assassination of African American civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.  When he stepped out of his Memphis motel room, he was struck by a sniper’s bullet. Police found a rifle on the sidewalk about a block away. Eyewitness reports and fingerprints on the weapon all implicated a single suspect: James Earl Ray, an escaped convict with deep racial hatred.
