On July 31, 1975, labor leader Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. He is believed to have been the victim of a Mafia hit, but no conclusive evidence was ever found. Hoffa became president of the Teamsters in 1957. He was lauded for his tireless work to expand the union. His approach was well expressed by this quote: “You got a problem? Call me. Just pick up the phone.” Many teamsters participated in mafia-related racketeering. This may have brought him down.
