July 18, 1940 FDR nominated for unprecedented 3rd term

On July 18, 1940, Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945) was nominated for an unprecedented third term as president. Roosevelt was first elected in 1933, and was eventually elected to a record four terms in office. He was the only U.S. president to serve more than two terms. Roosevelt believed that continuity during World War II was important, and clearly the majority of the people agreed with him.
