Jeannette Rankin elected, Nov 7, 1916

On November 7, 1916, Montana suffragist Jeannette Rankin was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, making her the first woman in the history of the nation to win a seat in Congress. She was raised on a ranch near Missoula, Montana, but her parents always taught her to think beyond the opportunities that were open to women at that time.
