On January 7, 1927, the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team played their first game in Hinckley, Illinois. They went on to win 101 out of 117 games that season. The team was run by a tailor named Abe Saperstein who sewed their red, white and blue uniforms. Until 1950 when the NBA lifted their whites-only ruling, the Globetrotters offered opportunities to African-American basketball players.
