February 18, 2001 Dale Earnhardt dies

On February 18, 2001, Dale Earnhardt Sr., one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history, died in a crash in the last lap of the Daytona 500. Earnhardt was driving his famous black No. 3 Chevrolet when he collided with another car, which thrust his car into a wall. He was cut out of the car and taken to a hospital but it was too late. His son finished the race in second place before learning the news.
