FDR first president to fly on official business Jan 14

On January 14, 1943, Franklin Roosevelt became the first president to travel by air on official business. His flight was for a World War II strategy meeting in Casablanca (North Africa) with Winston Churchill. Advisors were reluctant to send him by air but attack by German U-boats was a serious risk in the Atlantic. The flight was made in secrecy and entailed four stops for re-fueling.
