Bikini July 5, 1946

On July 5, 1946, the bikini was introduced for the first time at a swimming pool in Paris. That summer was the first war-free summer in Europe, and fashions expressed the liberated mood of the people. Because the suit was daring, the designer found an exotic dancer to wear the first suit in public. Americans did not begin to wear bikinis until the early 1960s.
