On September 11, 2001, America was attacked by Islamic terrorists. Both towers at the World Trade Center in New York City were hit and brought down by highjacked American 767 passenger planes. The Pentagon in Washington, D.C. was also hit by another highjacked plane. A fourth California-bound plane was highjacked, but because passengers heard what was happening in New York and D.C., the people on board stormed the cockpit to stop the highjackers. In the process, the plane flipped and crashed in a field in western Pennsylvania. All people onboard were killed, but they foiled the highjackers’ attempt at a fourth target. The mastermind behind the attack, Osama bin Laden, was hunted down and killed on May 2, 2011, by American forces.
