April 29, 1968, Hair opens on Broadway

On April 29, 1968, the rock musical, Hair, opened on Broadway.  The show started in New York at Joseph Papp’s Public Theater and moved to Broadway to extend its run. In addition to musical references that were seen as questionable, the show also featured a much-talked-about scene at the end of its first act in which the cast appeared completely nude on the dimly lit stage. The play proved exceedingly popular.
