On September 12, 1993, Seattle’s Lacey V. Murrow Bridge (once known as the Mercer Island Bridge) over Lake Washington re-opened after being closed for repairs on major damage suffered in floods of 1990. It is the largest floating bridge in the world and completed the eastbound section of I-90, meaning that a person could drive from Boston through Seattle without leaving the interstate highway system.
