July 24, 1959 Nixon and Khrushchev debate capitalism vs. communism

On July 24, 1959, Vice President Richard Nixon entered into a heated impromptu discussion with Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev over the merits of capitalism versus communism. The incident occurred when the two encountered each other at a U.S. Cultural Exchange Fair in Moscow. They were near a display of American kitchen conveniences, so it became known as the kitchen debate.
