On July 20, 1969, American astronaut Neil Armstrong took man’s first steps on the moon: “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” In 1961, President John F. Kennedy challenged the nation to commit itself to putting a man on the moon. Within a few days of the mid-1969 launch, Apollo 11 was in position for a moon landing. A couple of hours after Armstrong stepped out, he was joined by Buzz Aldrin.
