On June 1, 1968, Helen Keller died at the age of 87. Blind and deaf from infancy, Keller overcame her disabilities to become a well-respected writer and lecturer. Helen Keller was born in 1880 with normal hearing and sight. An illness at 19 months left her deaf and blind. Education for the blind and deaf were not well established, but when evaluated at age 6, she was connected with a teacher. Education made all the difference.
