On March 2, 1978, the body of Charlie Chaplin was stolen from a cemetery near Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Best known for his primary character, the Little Tramp, Chaplin was a beloved star throughout the world. He died on Christmas Day, 1977; the body was snatched two months later. The perpetrators attempted to extort money from Chaplin’s widow, but a few weeks later, police arrested two auto mechanics for the crime.
