November 20, 1969 Seymour Hersh files story on My Lai Massacre

On November 20, 1969, independent investigative reporter Seymour Hersh filed his second story about My Lai when between 347 and 504 unarmed civilians were killed (1968). His sources served under 1st Lt. William Calley during what is known as the My Lai massacre. The Cleveland Plain Dealer published photos of the dead, adding visual support to Hersh’s story. Of the men who participated, Calley was the only one who served time for it, and he was paroled in November 1974.
