On November 1, 1950 an attempt was made to assassinate President Harry Truman. The Trumans were staying an Blair House during White House renovations. Two assailants approached the front door and began shooting. The Secret Service response was quick. They killed Griselio Torresola and captured Oscar Collazo. The men favored Puerto Rican independence from the U.S. Truman supported this, too, so the event was tragic. One Secret Service agent died during the attack.
