On October 4, 1927, sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his crew began work on the face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota. It took a full 12 years to complete the granite images of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. Today tourists from all over the world come to see this impressive work.
