On October 7, 1913, Henry Ford implements the first moving assembly line at his automobile factory in Highland Park, Michigan. Initially this cut the assembly time for a Model T from 12.5 hours to six. Within a year, the assembly time was brought down to 93 hands-on minutes. Increase in productivity permitted Ford to drastically reduce the cost of the Model T.
