June 7, 1913 – first person to climb Mt. McKinley

On June 7, 1913, the first person to climb Mt. McKinley reached the summit, the highest point of the American continent. Hudson Stuck, an Alaskan missionary, and his 3 companions, faced difficult odds but succeeded. The mountain was then known as Denali (meaning “the High One”) and was renamed Mt. McKinley in 1896.
