In reply to <a href="https://americacomesalive.com/teacup-dogs-owned-by-president-franklin-pierce/#comment-442865">Misana Wylie</a>.

I always enjoy looking into questions that readers have, but this one has me stumped. I am not finding anything about Benny or a family dog in New Hampshire. I recommend contacting he National Park Service site: https://www.nhstateparks.org/visit/historic-sites/franklin-pierce-homestead-historic-site. They will most likely be able to uncover the information you're looking for.
Franklin Pierce certainly lived at a fascinating time...when I started going back through the information on him, I was reminded of that!

All best,

Thank you....I need to look into this and will do so. I'm just getting back into town so I'll let you know what else I find in the next few days.

It is interesting to know that Franklin Pierce received a few dogs from Commodore Perry during FP's 2nd year as President. It seems to me that Pierce, his wife and son Benny had a family dog waiting in Concord, NH for their return in January 1853 when Benny was killed, and the President-elect had to give that dog away rather than take it to D.C. with him. I really would like to know the breed and name of Benny's dog who was given away following the tragedy. Did they also have dog(s) when 2nd son Bobby was alive in the early 184Os? FP gave one of the Japanese teacup dogs to Jefferson & Varina Davis. Pierce has been one of my favorite Presidents since my teens.
