He built a large cottage, probably called a “ camp” in those days, and our family, his daughter Frances, her husband Donal Callahans and my older sister and I, spent every summer for 18 years up there. The lake was about 8 miles long and maybe less than 2 miles wide and our neighbours to the left were the Knox Brothers, who flew up from Johnstown on weekends and holidays. They had a very small plane, maybe a Cessna, crayon yellow, and flew very low over our place( which he called Journery’s End and We called Grandpa’s Woods), dangerously low, as the came in to land at their dock. I think our grandfather spoke to them about this, I don’t think it did any good. We have such happy memories of that beautiful place, I don’t know if the Knox family handed down their place, if it is still in the family.
