In reply to Waechter. That's a lovely thought. Here in the U.S. he had many things named for him, and of course, he earned the Medal of Honor. I just searched "Mertzwiller" to see if perhaps something there is named for him. I don't think so, but if anyone knows differently, that would be wonderful to know! Thank you for posting.

I met the man at my uncles funeral and shook his hand. I told him how honored I was to meet him. He was very kind.
