Thank you....yes I found many newspaper articles about John Sinykin, but I was very grateful that you documented some of the personal information in your script. (If it were publicly available, I would have linked to it. It was hard to obtain!)

I will go back into the article and make those changes. Thank you very much! (You saw my "sources" list beneath the article? It was a click-through link.)

All best,

Thank you so much for writing this article about my great uncle, John L. Sinykin, and his work training the first guide dog for the blind in the U.S. I see that you used some of my research and likely read the screenplay I wrote about him. Two corrections I'd like to make: Sinykin died in St. Paul, Minnesota, not Robbinsdale. He lived in St. Paul for many years, although his LaSalle Kennels were in what is now the Minneapolis suburb of Minnetonka, Minnesota, and he lived there at some points. That property began as a farm owned by Sinykin with my grandfather, Jacob Kozberg. They were also in the cosmetics business together. Sinykin was born in a small town called Kapulia, which was under the control of the Russian Czar at that time, but is now part of Belarus. It is close to Lithuania, so perhaps the family said Lithuania at some point.

Thank you so much for posting this. It makes me happy to know that someone related to Jack Sinykin can use this article to explain the story. Sinykin took such an importnat step forward for those who are visually impaired.

Thank you! I worked for JL Sinykin for two years in 1969 and 1970. He was a kind man, a stern taskmaster and devoted to his LaSalle Kennels on old Hwy 12 west of Minneapolis. I have fond recollections of serving as his speech maker to various philanthropic organizations as we attempted to raise funds for operations at the kennels in order to place more of his beautiful dogs with people in need. The dogs were memorable as well. Ulk, Rolf, and Jetty being among the finest of their breed. Great memories of a grand old man.
