The Taco Bell dog campaign only lasted a couple of years. People loved the commercials, but it did not move the needle on sales. So Gidget was the only official Taco Bell dog, though the advertising agency had a couple of back-up dogs if needed. But Gidget was such a pro, it seems she was able to do most of her work on a first take, meaning that understudies would have been rarely used.
