I went to Marguerite Lofthus camp in Julian, CA back in the late 70’s. It was off of Pine Hills Rd. She was very kind to me and gave me an autographed copy of her book. All these years later and I still remember her.

Sadly, I learned that the camp burnt down during some wildfires.

I have this dog named smudge, she’s a German Shepard dog. She looks just like rin Tin tin. She’s a female, not fixed. This story I am grateful I came across and read about. I love it

My parents went to many of Loftus’s retreats and had the pleasure of meeting Rinda on many occasions, they often said “a smarter or more well bred dog could never be found”, which said a lot as my mother had owned several papered dogs, one even a AKC champion Great Dane owned by her sister. I used to have ML’s book but sadly lost it at some point in my mothers life. One story I remember reading in was that Marguerite had a wound (I think it was on her leg) that Rinda would just not let alone, Marguerite knew a dogs sense of smell far exceed our own so she let Rinda lick it, ended up being a thorn, splinter or something (sorry can’t remember) but it was caught BEFORE it could worsen all for the love of a dog. I remembered this YEARS later when my husband had had a debridement surgery on his foot, his bandages had been removed but there were still sutures in place. Out of the multiple suture sites our mini Dachshund would just not leave one particular one alone, I told him to let her have a go at it until he could get back to the Dr, would you believe he had a serious infection in that ONE place?!? There’s a reason dogs are man’s best friend, always listen to them, oftentimes they’re smarter than us
