Walter,
Thank you so much for posting. Your memory tracks with all the stories I read about Jim. I checked newspapers across the country to see if any reporters saw anything different, They did not. I agree with you, you just have to believe there was something special about that dog.

Hi my name is Walter ESSER I’m 93 years old and when I was about 10 years old I saw and got to meet Jim the wonder dog. Jim VanArsdale asked Jim the wonder dog to pick out the car that we had arrived in. Jim the wonder dog went outside and put his paw on the bumper of our car.
Another Time my two brothers Frank and Bob went to see Jim the wonder dog. Jim VanArsdale asked my dad the names of his two sons. VanArsdale then asked the dog which one is Francis and the dog identified my brother Frank by putting his paw on Frank’s foot.
I’m a believer. I saw it myself.

I have read so many different reports from local newspaper reporters that I particularly love hearing from someone who heard about Jim from their parent. I am still baffled by how Jim knew all that he did. He truly must have been some dog. Thank you!

My father Virgil Verts as a teenager saw Jim many times in Marshall. My father told me as a child stories of Jim and the wonderful things he could do. My parents have passed now and are buried within 100 yards of Jim’s grave. I’ve always hoped Dad’s and Jim’s paths are still crossing.
