The dogs of the Civil War did much to help raise soldiers’ spirits at one of the bleakest times in our nation’s history, much as dogs continue to do for our soldiers today. War has changed greatly in 150 years, but the relationship between soldiers and their dogs has not. A dog truly is a soldier’s best friend.
